Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” has picked up serious steam as one of the songs of the summer this year. The anthemic track, which currently sits at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, dated July 7, received the remix treatment on Wednesday (July 4), featuring Nicki Minaj and Quavo.
Nicki kicks things off on the intoxicating R&B banger, and closes out the appearance by paying homage to her 2010 Pink Friday album standout cut “Super Bass.” (Minaj surreptitiously teased the lyric on Twitter at the top of July.) “He said he tryna steal my heart, he got the booster face/ I give him time that them other n—-s used to waste/ He got that, he got that, he got that super bass,” she rhymes.
Quavo injects himself into the midst of the luscious tune for a signature ad-lib-filled verse of his own. The Migos frontman references how having a girl by his side keeps him away from the street life. “Let you on my life, get a sneak peek/ Listen to my heart go beep-beep/ When we boo’d up, she keep me out the street-streets/ Hit it back-to-back, make me call her repeat,” Huncho raps.
The remix comes to a close with a faux recorded phone conversation between Quavo and Nicki. She asks him to be picked up from somewhere but he’s actually already outside.
