Teen attacked in Texas Whataburger for wearing ‘Make America Great Again’ hat
A video shared on Twitter shows Texas teen Hunter Richard sitting in a booth with his friends when an unidentified man approaches, throws a drink in Richard’s face, and then steals his MAGA hat. As the assailant walks out of the fast food joint, he yells, “You ain’t supporting s***.”
Twitter user Brax, Richard’s s friend, shared the video on his Twitter account. He captioned the post, “So went out for a 2am snack and my friend (wearing a MAGA hat) had his hat stolen and a drink thrown in his face (and mine, you can see my arms on the left of the video).”
The incident happened at a Whataburger restaurant in San Antonio on Wednesday morning. A representative from Whataburger Corporate Communications tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “We were shocked to see this video and certainly don’t condone this type of customer behavior in our restaurants. To be clear, no Whataburger employees were involved or witnessed the incident.”
Richard told News 4 San Antonio, “I support my President and if you don’t let’s have a conversation about it instead of ripping my hat off. I just think a conversation about politics is more productive for the entire whole rather than taking my hat and yelling subjective words to me.”
The teen said the attack was unprovoked and some of his hair was pulled during the assault. An alleged witness, however, told KENS 5 they saw the three teens in the video joking about ‘hanging blacks’ and killing off minorities before the attack occurred.
“They were talking about for the Fourth of July hanging black people from trees that that would be the perfect party. Hopefully, with Donald Trump within the next few years, we can celebrate a white country, a real country without blacks. Maybe we can deport them to Africa,” he said to KENS 5.
The witness, who decided to remain anonymous after his family began to get death threats for speaking on the incident, also said the teens mentioned that they wished the movie The Purge was real, but only against African Americans and Latinos. “They said they wanted it to be legal for white people to kill any other race for the Fourth of July,” he claimed.
According to the Independent, Patricia Spittler — thought to be the mother of one of the boys — also shared the video on Facebook, which received more than 2 million views before it was removed. Spittler apparently called users to help identify the “scumbag of the year.”
